A bit over a month ago I finally got around to upgrading from Vista to 7. I wiped my hard drive and installed Windows 7 64 bit ultimate from a CD that a family member used last year without issue. Now every single time that my computer starts up, it gets "stuck" on the black screen that says "Starting Windows". I guess it isn't technically stuck; it always eventually gets past that screen... It just takes about 10-12 minutes.

Other than that, the computer is running fine. I've tried running a startup repair, defragging, and a few other things, but this is the sort of thing I'm not so great at troubleshooting.

It's only a mild annoyance since I don't reboot my PC very often, but every now and then it gets to me. Plus I'd like to make sure it isn't a sign of a bigger problem. Can anyone offer me any advice? I'm happy to provide more information if I missed something important.

PC DETAILS
I bought my PC about 5 years ago. I bought (what was at the time) a run-of-the-mill mid-range PC and swapped in a new power supply and graphics card so I could do some gaming with it.

PC base: Acer Aspire am5700 - came with:
---Intel quad core Q8200 (2.33)
---4 GB DDR2 RAM
---Western Digital caviar blue 640 GB hard drive.
---Windows Vista 64 bit
PSU: low-mid range 500W. Replaced recently with Corsair 600W modular PSU
GPU: BFG GeForce 9800 gtx+

Check event manager logs for issues. Did you download win7 drivers from Acers site and install them? You might also need a bios update.
As for win7, if it was used already it might not activate if MS detects that its still being used which means you just wasted a whole bunch of time but you do have 30 days i think, to purchase a valid key and try re-activating. Good luck and let us know how the drivers & bios works out.
