High ping (latency) and slow navigation

I'm quite tired of having so many issues regarding slow navigation and high latency when playing games.

Every time I contact my ISP's technical support they tell me to close everything in the PC where I'm experiencing this issues and then write "netstat -n" in CMD. When I do that, it appears some lines, and when I answer that to them they say "if there's some things there is because there's open connections and we can't do the proper tests to verify issues, maybe you have malware or viruses".

-

I already made antivirus and firewall analysis (everything was fine). I'm using Windows 7 x64 and Avast Antivirus, with COMODO firewall.
My internet connection is 30mbps download and 3mbps upload speed. Using a modem-router and I'm connected to it directly by cable.

I also tried disabling NAT serveral times so modem-router works as modem only (that changes IP address as well) but didn't help.

-

What should I do?

Thanks for your time and help!

Yes, sometimes with notebooks and smartphones. But as I have a modem-router, I already tried to deactivate the NAT and use the network only as a modem with my PC connected by cable. Didn't work, high latency still there.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I didn't try with other systems becaues they are not able to play such videogames, but I assume they do too, because sometimes we experience slow navigation in Facebook, YouTube, etc.

Hardware specs:

And motherboard ASUS Sabertooth Z87

I'm connected directly to the modem-router. Not using anything. Just cable direct.

I tried changing IP or disabling NAT several times, but didn't work at all.

Thanks.

That's true. I should try in the other systems, but most of them are tablets and old notebooks. I tried "pingtest.net" but I don't know if the server it choose is fine or not.

Pings results fluctuates from 161 to 220 more or less:

I can show you the firewall diagnose if needed, when I close everything there's no too much IN and OUT activity, but still high latency is there.

Mmmm why? I don't want to be rude or sound disgrateful, but I would like to know why you need. I'd prefer to do it myself what you are going to do with the DNS IP address, if you can instruct me.

Thanks!

You need me to enable NAT then? Right now is disabled.

Is the modem not a router as well?

I would try the ping test from another computer, just to verify it's not your machine.

I'd also verify if any other computer is using the same DNS server. DNS wouldn't impact in game pings though, since it's not resolving the names.

Yes, is a modem-router so it works as router also, but I disable NAT so it was working just as modem (sometimes it works better that way). I already enable it.

I tried the ping test in another computer and replies were quite lower than my PC (btw I'm in Argentina, South America):

DNS are totally different between these computers.
I'm quite worried now, this means that my PC is the problem?

Thanks a lot for your help buddy.

The other PC doesn't have delays I think, but my PC has in some IPs, what should I do with those?

Your PC is doing 15 hops, the other PC only did 9

There's a block of .25X and .24X addresses that are really suspicious to me. Try a few more times on both and compare. If it's similar every time, sounds like your traffic is being redirected.

Try matching your DNS with the other PC and see if that helps.

If you want to get extreme, try booting from a Ubuntu Live CD and see if you still get the ping issue on a different OS. If it only exists in Windows, it's a software problem.
If you get the same issue on Live CD, could be a dying NIC or a boot sector virus.

What if I connect to another network by WiFi? I mean, would that solve the issue if it's not a software problem?
Wouldn't a firewall detects if my traffic is being redirected? I mean in the real time monitor there's no connections that shows too much traffic or something weird.

Are you on Wifi or wired?
Is the other machine on wifi or wired?

A firewall shouldn't redirect your traffic, just blocks incoming ports. The Antivirus might redirect to check against another server, that's possible.

My PC is wired. The other one is WiFi.
Anyway is definetely an issue from my PC, isn't it? I mean it was pretty clear I think =(

Would you recommend me to do this before matching the DNS?

I'm trying the ping tests booting CMD but it says "Ping requiest could not find host google.ca, please check the name and try again".
And when tried pathping or tracert it says "unable to resolve target system name google.com".

What is wrong? Should I do it in safe mode with networking?

Try in safemode with networking, or you may need to manually enter your IP configuration with netsh.

Ubuntu boot CD might be easier.

I used to have a CentOS CD but I have to find it or download Ubuntu boot CD.

I've done the tests in safe mode with networking but results were similar, .24x and .25x IPs high ms. Maybe it's not the same as boot CMD because it runs files from Windows in safe mode.

I'm so angry. But thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

I don't have much else to offer. It's either a boot sector virus (less likely) or a bad NIC (more likely).

Could also be the CAT5e cable you are using is damaged, try swapping that as well.

That's about it for removable parts. Next would be install a different network card and see if that works (if you have one lying around).
