Right now I have a single gtx 770. I am planing in the next month to make the switch to intel and getting another 770. I am very cautious buying parts this time because I want them to last for as long as they can. Right now I am thinking about upgrading to the i7 4770k, the asus vi formula mobo, and the corsair ax 860i. I know this is going to be a very good setup but then I think if I wanted to add a 3rd 770 way later, i would have to buy a whole new mobo and psu. I know using the word "future-proof" is kind of a bad term to use, but how long would 2 770 be able to run games at max settings? Also later down the road when I have 2 770s and looking for an upgrade, would it be better to get a 3rd 770 or start over with a new card? Thanks to any feedback I get!

Tri SLI would require 1000-1200W at least.

I'd imagine SLI GTX 770's to last at least 3-4 years maybe & play games that support SLI on max (but i don't have my crystal ball :p ). Of course the odd intensive game e.g Metro 2033, will be hard to max out with SLI as is. If your gaming at 1080p it should be more doable, for longer.

By the time adding a 3rd card comes around, you may find a 770 hard to acquire when they go end of life. I'd look at the single fastest card you can afford when this time comes.

The 770 is a beefy card if I must say. A single 770 should last you well into next year and maybe, just maybe a year after that. 770 in SLI would be even better allowing you to play games in 1440p with ease and should last you 2 years or so depending on how game engines change.

I wouldn't recommend adding another 770 making it 3-way SLI. One single powerful card is ALWAYS the best route as there are less complications, newer hardware and less money spent.

Yes, anything over that you would be better off with a 780 Ti.
