I have an issue with my new R9 280x Toxic where it goes from 35c to 50c+ when doing something like displaying 2 desktops or watching a video. It doesn't matter if I set the resolution of my second monitor to 800x600, it still heats up exactly 15c more. I even tried viewing YT videos in 144p, but even that made the GPU heat up. Watching a 1440p YT video in full screen and having another video on my second monitor will give me the same temps as having a single 144p video open. I've been monitoring Speccy and I think I might know why:

The voltage usage goes from .85V to .95V when doing anything that requires even minimal GPU usage. I'm guessing that extra power is what causes this increase in heat.

My problem is that it doesn't even need the extra .1V to display something like a YT video or a second empty desktop. It could work perfectly fine without the extra increase in power.

Is there any way to fix this?

50C isn't even hot for a gpu... not sure what you're concerned about.

currently my MSI Gaming r9-280x is sitting at 46C, and i'm doing nothing. Granted the ambient temps are like 40C... it might be the fan settings for your gpu... if you have it overclocked that can cause this as well. it might even be reporting incorrect temps. get yourself msi afterburner, and see what it says about your gpu.

It's not that it's hot, it's just that it's unnecessary for it to raise 15c when I watch a video. I'm not really worried, but I would rather have it 15c cooler if it's possible, and it's not OCed. I checked MSI Afterburner and it tells me the same as Speccy, but my core clock goes from 300 to 500 and my memory clock goes from 150 to 1600.

:\ stress test it... use msi kompressor to burn the gpu for a few minutes and see what happens to the temps. if they top out in the 70's to low 80's i'd say your gpu cooler is doing a solid job.
