Will changing providers make my internet faster?

So I live in the UK and at the moment I have a 3.3Mb download and a 0.7Mb upload which is awful! So in my house we are with TalkTalk and was wandering whether moving to another company like BT maybe would increase the speed of our download. Everyone in our village has pretty slow internet speeds but was wandering if it could make a difference.

Just changing your provider wont help your speed, the main factor if distance from the exchange and quality of the copper, however fibre to the green cabinet is being rolled out over the country and you will have to contact your ISP to find out if your local cabinet has been upgraded yet or if there are any plans to.

Well I live in Canada so I'm not sure what providers there are, but it sounds like your in a Rural area as I am. You might just be stuck. Check with the phone company and see if DSL is an option. Wireless is probably what your on right? or is it Dial-up?

You're right about the rural area, we aren't in the middle of no where but about 30 minutes from the closest major city. All I know is the router, which i am connected to with Ethernet, goes into the phone line. I don't really know the difference between internet line types other than some are wireless with satellites, others are copper cables and some use fibre optic cable.
Any way of finding out which type I am using?

Yeah try BT they might. Just might speed you up but I hate to say it. If everyone has slow speeds chances are you might have to live with it. Also there's a factor that has to be played in. There is an internet rush hour that even effects people in the city. It's the time when everyone is on the internet. I believe 7-10 is when internet bogs down due to high usage. All in all just search Rural internet providers in UK. Good luck
