So this is my first build and I used this motherboard my problem is I don't have any audio I remember I did once get sound out of the speakers but I guess I changed a setting or something cause now I don't have it, I uninstalled the driver and re-installed it and still nothing. I mostly use head phones and those don't have a problem but I can't get any sound out of the speakers?

Any help would be appreciated.

Im actually having a similar problem. I have a set of headphones I use that are usb based and work fine. I'm trying to plug in my bose speakers and neither of the ports works for sound. My computer says its outputting sound but nothing is happening. I have 2 devices outside of my headset and my TV that it says I can choose from. Both called Digital Audio (s/PDIF) One is Microsoft and the other is an AMD. I've tried both of them as default and neither one works. The microsoft one is saying its the [Orange] Rear Panel Optical Jack,. The other is also saying its Microsoft based but is the [Black] Digital Jack. Any ideas on what could be wrong? and/or steps to diagnose further?

Same. Just bought this board Asus Z97 this weekend and built a new PC. The salesman made a point to note the 'Crystal Audio' chip on the motherboard and said it was great sound - I ran all the driver instalsl on the mboard enclosed DVD, and have run windows update. However, nothing shows up in Windows in the 'sound' panel other than our USB headphones - and the jack is dead (green for normal simple audio out).

I do see "Real Audio..." driver installed in device manager, and when I go to the ASUS Z97 site to look for a driver under 'Audio' there is a single zip file for Real Audio driver - however, Windows 7 x64 doesn't show any option for the external speakers in the sound panel.

Any suggestions? Anyone? Is there a toggle or onboard switch or something to enable the audio? A setting in the bios somewhere?

I do have a new NVidia video card that has a high def audio capability - does that somehow negate the Real Audio chipset?
