R7 260X 2GB vs HD7850 1GB?

So after much debate upon myself on what to buy first and stuff, I've concluded that I'd buy a new GPU to replace my powerhungry GTX285.. But, I'm having a problem on choosing between these two under the $150 price locally..

R7 260X 2GB ($147 converted price)
or
HD7850 1GB ($149 converted price)

Should I go for the faster HD7850 with only 1GB vram, or get the 2GB vram r7 260x? I'm not a hardcore gamer so I'm actually leaning on the R7 for the somewhat "future proof"(or so they say) 2gb vram. I usually play dota 2 @ 1080p max settings which is handled by my gtx285 no problems.. Probably gonna play some other demanding games like AC3 or COD Ghosts after I replace it, but which of the two would be more ideal to get?

PS. I only play on a single 1080p monitor and have no intention of going dual/triple monitor.. :)

I'm leaning towards the 7850 (go for the 2GB model if you can) for the performance boost, the r7 260 is much too slow imho, but that's a subjective thing I guess. :p

Altogether, I would probably settle for the r9 270 for a very small increase in price, and rather large increase in performance.

The Radeon R7 260X is just a re-badged Radeon HD 7790 with the GPU clock increased by 100MHz and the memory clock increased by 125MHz.

You should be able to find a Radeon HD 7850 2GB for the same price as a Radeon R7 260X 2GB. The 17% performance advantage of the Radeon HD 7850 makes it a way better deal.

@Fox
I'd love to get the 7850, but I'm kinda worried about the 1GB vram which might bottleneck some games in the future, about 3-5 years from now, and I love turning graphics up as much as possible.. The 2gb version if it is already way out of my budget for my rig, costs $185 here, and the R9 270x costs $210.. :(

@ko888
Yeah I know, a little faster than 7790. I was gonna put in the 7790 with those two as another option but I can't find any 2gb versions locally. Unfortunately, the 7850 2gb is priced much higher at $185.. The 7850 1GB is at the same price range with the R7 260x here, ~$150..

I'm just afraid that you'll lose out on too much performance with the r7 260. If anything then put those cash you have now aside and wait till next month, then purchase the 2GB version.

The r7 260 is just too weak. D: (Disclaimer: Personal opinion may apply :p )

I have two 260x 1 GB and one 260x 2 GB. I chose the 260x over the 7850 since the 7850 only has one DVI connection compared to 260x's two DVI connections and the fact that the 260x has trueaudio like the 290 and 290x.

God.. those replies, even on my other threads had me wishing I was living in the US or anywhere but here.. Those cards costs around $240-$250 here.. :\

@Fox
Yeah, looks like it.. But its still better, almost as twice better than my GTX285, and I'm not a hardcore gamer so I'm still kinda leaning on the R7, but the 7850 is just awesome vs the 260x, so I don't really know lol!

Anyway, as much as I love to get the 2gb version of the HD7850, unfortunately budget is my current enemy, so I'm stuck with those two.. Would it be better to get a faster 1GB card, or a slower 2GB card for casual (dota 2, possibly COD Ghosts or AC3) 1080p gaming? But hey, I've monitored Dota 2 just now and only takes around 500mb vram, a + for the HD7850 1GB.. So I'm kinda back to where I started lol!

Well, here's my take on it; there is no reason to go for the 260 with 2GB of Vram if the resolutions that you're going to try running games in will be at 15-30 FPS.

If I had to choose, I'd still go for the 7850, for the sheer overhead in performance.

In the end, it's up to you to make the final call, but hopefully you will have considered the input we could help you with. o/

You do have a point there. But when is the 2GB vram important? I'm just a bit paranoid about those saying "Get the 2gb, this game uses blah blah gb, that game uses blah blah gb, so get the 2gb card!" and those "future proof" stuff. Yeah, I think getting the HD7850, despite the 1GB vram, will be better.. I've been using a 1GB card for about 2 years with no problems anyway, so I think I can manage a 1GB hd7850 just fine.. :D
