Hi everyone , Hope that you're fine.
I have 4 gb of Ram installed 2x2 GB Corsair 667 mhz , but only 3,25gb is usable in windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits. Also in the bios , the 4gb is detected and only 3,25gb is usable .
I had searched before for a solution :
I don't have " memory remap" in my bios , maybe it's automatically done.
I have tried to do a clean install of windows.
The internal VGA had a 128 mb of shared memory , and i'm using a graphic card.
in msconfig , the maximal Ram is disabled
The 2 pairs of ram are tested by Memtest any error had been detected .
The 2 slots of Ram worked correctly
I had tried to do the clear CMOS , and no difference.

I need your help ! Thank you !

Some gets pre-allocated for Windows. Have a look on Resource Monitor, Memory.

Disabled the shared VGA memory completely. Sounds like bad/unsupported RAM.

Hi , Thanks for you rapid answers.
In the resource monitor , look lik 770MO are reserved for hardware. How can i proceed to get all my 4gb of ram ?

And i'm sorry , i won't disable the shared vga memory ,because the last time , i did it , i had found a lot of problems to enable it another time (The Clear Cmos , hadn't worked for me for the first time , but worked after some days ^^')

I'm waiting for your solutions =)

Easiest solution is to get 8gb ram - like most other people.

I have an old motherboard , it's an Msi P4M900M3-L , and it support maximum 4gb of ram 677 mhz . So if you have another solution ^^

Check the vendor list on the motherboards manual and see if the RAM you have installed is supported.

Nup - that's it. You just have to put with it. Have a look on Resource Monitor, Memory. Can you free up any?

The VGA doesn't need memory because you aren't using it. There's no relationship between any issues you had and VGA memory.
If anything, any onboard VGA features should be set to Disabled.

Hi, this is incredibly symptomatic of the PCI memory hole remap that you claim to not have. It goes by several names and can be found in several places, so it may be hard to find.
I took a look at the manual for your motherboard but the documentation is incomplete and unhelpful. I found a different motherboard with the same Via chipset manufactured by Biostar, the P4M900-M7 FE. On this motherboard it is located under Advanced Chipset Features, and is named "memory hole". If you have no such setting on your motherboard (it is default off for compatibility reasons) then I am afraid that you are out of luck.

Hi , i checked another time the bios , and didn't find the "memory hole".

I know , i'm talking about if the graphic card won't work , i will have to clear Cmos , and based on a old experience in the same mobo , the clear Cmos don't work for me unless i repeat it a lot of times

Well this is what i'm trying to do , The difference between 3,25gb and 4gb is not visible !

Thanks for your solutions , but i think that the limitation is from the chipset who doesn't really support 4GB of usable Ram . I will wait some days before putting the thread at resolved status. If you have another suggestions, i will be here

It's not visible because it's being clobbered by the PCI addresses. The OS is not even aware that it exists because the firmware (BIOS) has not created a mapping for it.

PCI addresses are mapped to the top of the lower 4GiB of of the physical address space. This is due to the PCI bus having a 32 bit address bus and not all PCI devices support dual-word addressing.

This range often overlaps with the system's DRAM, and the hardware addresses take precedence, disabling the DRAM.

If memory hole remapping is enabled, the clobbered DRAM will be remapped somewhere above the 4GiB barrier. This has to be supported by the chipset and has to be supported by the firmware. The latter seems to be missing in your case.

Disable the onboard VGA.
If the GPU dies, you already know how to clear the BIOS. You can just pull the GPU out and the onboard will enable automatically. It's a waste of resources.

You should listen to our advice. That's why you asked us. We are getting a lot of flack for a few quick troubleshooting steps that may or may not resolve the issue, but will at least give us a better idea of what is going on.
