Computer fans speed up and screen goes black when running games!

Hi there, I've had a look around and can't seem to find an answer here.

I think this has been a gradual problem. Today I was playing FEAR3 on my PC and noticed I was getting poor framerates when my computer should be able to blast it no problem. After playing, I left it for a bit and tried to play Final Fantasy 14 and noticed poor framerates again, then suddenly my computer fans started revving and my screen went black. I've never had an issue like this before. I've cleaned my computer of dust (admittedly it was REALLY due a clean) but even after that it's still happening. Now it shows me the game for a couple of seconds revs and goes black without fail. Could this be an overheating problem? I've not encountered anything like this before.

Specs:

Corsair CX750 PSU
Intel i5 sandybridge processor (3.10ghz)
8gb ddr3 Gskill RAM
corsair H55 CPU watercooler
1tb hard drive
2tb hard drive.

Any help would be appreciated. I was thinking of upgrading my case soon plus splashing for a new GPU, but I'm reluctant to do so until I get to the bottom of this.

Thanks!

I've downloaded and run HWMonitor but all temps are looking good. The computer screen goes black too quickly for me to have a look when putting it under stress, however, I DID just change all the graphics settings to minimum and it seemed to be working alright. Played around for a couple of minutes before trying to change up to max settings. Then the screen just went black again. Possibly a power based problem?

It indeed might be a power issue, the CX PSU's aren't exactly enthusiast grade as they are for budget building.

Although, it could also be that your GPU (which type is it btw?) might be giving up.

You could try playing around with the TDP settings in your Nvidia/AMD control panel, see if setting the TDP(Power and Temperature target) lower at higher settings will allow you to play.

Just realised I never posted that, sorry!

It's a GTX 670. It's odd because this has suddenly just come about today. I SLI'd two cards a few months ago for a couple of weeks with no hitches. Really just don't fancy paying for a new PSU AND GPU if it can be helped :l

If you have any mates with a similar psu/gpu, try installing yours into theirs, or vice versa.

I'm not really all that experienced with PSU voltages and the like, but I have a lot of random spare parts lying around for fault testing. xD

Tried using my friends GTX 660 there and windows refused to load at all. In any case listening to the fans before the screen goes black it's definitely the GPU fans that are revving so I think it's my GPU.

Bit of an update.

Been trying different games, so for example DMC running on everything maxed out is A-OK but Crysis 3 on high makes it go berserk. Managed to get a temp reading after starting Final Fantasy. Idle it's sitting at 43oC (107F) but as soon as the game is running it immediately rockets to 78oC with the fans going, (without exaggeration) about one million rpm. Any ideas?
