This is my first build and I'm going to order everything tomorrow. I just want to make sure all my parts are compatible and I have a good power supply. Here are my parts:

Cpu: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor

Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Graphics card: Asus Radeon R9 270X 2GB DirectCU II Video Card

Case: Corsair 230T Windowed-BLUE ATX Mid Tower Case

Power supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Optical drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer

Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit, System Builder OEM DVD 1 Pack (New Packaging)

This is the version of windows i want right? I already know how to use windows 7 well but do you think I should get windows 8.1 instead?
I plan on upgrading my graphics card to something like a gtx 870 in about 1.5 years. Will that have any problems with this build?
And is this a good power supply or should I get this instead: Rosewill Hive 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Please don't suggest changing unless it is the same price or below. This is my max budget. I am mostly just concerned about the parts being compatible, having a good power supply, and the correct version of the operating system.

I would get win 8.1. It is simply faster/ better in every way.

The PSU should be changed. The CX units are barely average quality. Change it to an XFX 550w unit. This will be much better.

The motherboard is pointless as it is designed for overclocking and that CPU cannot be overclocked. An h87/h97 board is what you want.

Will the xfx 550w be able to handle this build with a card like a gtx 870? And is there any other differences between z97 and h97 boards? I can't find many reviews on them so I'm a little nervous to buy one. And if I buy a intel k model later will I be able to use it if I don't overclock?

I know the k model is meant for over clocking but the ones I've looked at are faster at stock also.

Yes the XFX550 will handle it easily.

A K model CPU wonks on any board. You can only overclock it on a z97 board though. Buying a K model CPU and not overclocking is pointless.

The XFX 550w will be able to handle the build with ease with a GPU like the GTX 770. It is a high quality unit and you should have little problem, which is because you're not going to be overlocking at all with the locked CPU. The difference between the H97 and the Z97 motherboards is that the H97 ones do not support overclocking. Since you're opting for the i5-4440, a CPU with a locked multiplier, you should go with the H97 motherboards. Both of the x97 boards compatible with the next generation of Intel CPUs.

I'm going to stick with the z97 motherboard because when I get a new cpu I may want to overclock. But everything else looks good? And that's enough power for this build after I upgrade my graphics card? When I eventually upgrade more parts I'll look into a stronger power supply if I need one. And everything will work with the motherboard and go with the case?

Also should I get the xfx 550w or the xfx ts 550w? Thanks for the help.

Just get the regular 550W, it shouldn't make a significant difference and it'll be enough power for your build. Everything in the OP should work great together.
