HDMI won't output sound.

So I recently built my first computer and am using my Magnavox TV with the HDMI port as a monitor until i find a good one i like. It worked fine at first with audio and video through the HDMI cord but i was updating a game and left it sit for a while and the display turned itself off after 30 minutes and the TV turned off because there was no signal. when i turned it back on it said, "An HDMI-to-DVI display connection has been detected. In order to hear audio on your HDMI-based TV or display, you will need to have a separate audio connection from your computer sound outputs to your TV or audio equipment. for more information, click the Help button." The graphics card I am using is a Gigabyte R7 260x if that helps. I've tried everything i can think of and looked all over with no successful results. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the help unfortunately that did not work. I was, however, able to get it to work again when i restarted my computer but if i shut my TV off and turned it back on it happened again.
