Hello all,
I am looking to build my first pc and just ordered the motherboard, ram and CPU today. I would like to list the parts that I will be trying to put into the system to see if everyone could critique it for me. Please let me know what you think and if there are things that I need to consider and change. Thank you in advance, appreciate the information. Side note: I have not decided on a case or power supply, any good suggestions are extremely welcomed.

Nice, I like the case. I'm hoping the cpu cooler will fit with ram (forgot to research that). I'm interested in the liquid cooler you suggested but I do not have any experience (with pc building) with liquid cool. I often wonder if it would leak and cause problems or if they are hard to manage and install.

What's the usage for? If it's gaming drop the i7 to the i5, and drop the motherboard from the Maximus to an Asrock Z97, and then upgrade your GPU to a GTX 780TI. That will be worth it in the long run, and then you also might want to invest in a better cooler for overclocking. What's your budget?

The budget varies as I am slowly gathering parts. I don't mind spending a little extra to ensure I have a complete worthwhile build. I will be using the computer for gaming. I have been thinking about this and I may have screwed the pooch on the ram. I'm not sure that the Trident is low profile and will fit under a Noctura air cooler, Evo212, or the liquid cooler as stated above. I would prefer to run air and not concern myself with the liquid cool but I may not have too much of a choice. I might be overclocking the system eventually but not immediately.

Just to clarify, I plan on having a complete build by the end of the month. Initially I will not start off Ocing and would prefer to stick with air cooled for the time being. Would anyone know if I would have to update the bios before installing and if there is a good way to do so. Im not sure if the ram ordered will fit under a CPU cooler. If anyone has experience with trident and coolers im grateful for the advice. Another thing that comes to mind I read about the phantom cases and hear the airflow is not that great, does anyone know of a good airflow atx case that works really well?Positive or negative airflow? Im trying to stay below 2000.0 but will spend more if necessary.

That EVO212 might work if it only covers the first two slots. I guess I can always remove the spreaders but that negates returning or RMA on the ram

Don't waste your money on a 212 EVO. The amount you'll be able to overclock is not worth the money spent on a Z97 motherboard and unlocked CPU.

In all the research I have done prior to this thread I found that the Maximus Hero Vii is one of the best boards for gaming and comes highly recommended, as well as the CPU. The ram, I read, is one of the better performance rams for the Haswell chips/boards. I might have missed something and obviously didn't take into account the form factor with the CPU cooler.

its more the trident ram than the mobo the issue here but the 212 should be more than enought with 2 fans blowing

Oh I just re-read. In that case iceclock isn't entirely to blame. You've made some weird decisions yourself.

However, here are a few problems with the build overall.

- i7 isn't necessary for gaming
- Hyper 212 EVO is pointless with such a high end motherboard
- Motherboard is pointless with such a low end cooler
- There are much, much better enclosures out there
- 16 GB RAM is pointless unless you're actually going to use it
- The Crucial MX100 256GB would be a better choice over the 840 EVO
- R9 290 performs just as well for much, much less. Especially since the Windforce edition has decreased so much in price since the fall of all the digital coin mining.
- Highly doubt you'll need 3 TB of storage capacity
- Could get a lower wattage PSU

lets see the 850 is for dual-graphic card usage. the evo cools alot better than stock. stockcooler=garbage

motherboard+cpu+ram is already bought.

i prefer the evo over the mx100 but we.

and ya a 290 is nice but most overheat so im sticking with the 780 recommandation
