Hello everyone, i was curious to find out if these are higher than usual cpu usages. My buddy averages around 30% in a game called smite with his i7 4770k. I have the I5 4670k and am reaching cpu usages of 60-70% while in a actual match. Any advice regarrding this chip and its cpu usage would be great.
Day Z also runs between 60-70 i believe.

Solution
it's how windows counts your cpu utilization. unless you break it down by core windows takes total utilization and splits it up among the number of threads. Windows see's an i7 as an 8 threaded cpu, so if the game is stressing his chip by... say... 60%, he has 2x the number of threads, as your i5, so windows will claim he's really at 30% utilization (even though half his threads are at best able to handle 1/4 of a full core's load)

Don't worry, dayz at least is a 2 1/2 threaded title, sounds like your system is handling it about right. I wouldn't worry.

furthermore it's entirely possible his gpu is bottlenecking him which is why he's getting lower core utilization.

Okay, thank you for the response. I suppose that all makes sense abuot the cores and percentages. however his GPU is a EVGA ACX 780, mine is a EVGA ACX 770.

Also, when going into Resource Monitor. the cores are always the same in terms of spikes on the graph and percentages. i'm assuming this is the sync all cores thing in bios? however isnt that the better option? it may not be related at all lol. just built this pc and worry about many things of course.

pretty much... don't worry about core utilization. unless you're hitting 100% it doesn't mean anything. Once your cpu starts to hit in the 90's you're maxing out the cpu, then i'd start to get concerned. otherwise it doesn't mean anything really.

I don't know. i believe something else could be going on, just no idea what. i have a little bit of higher temps than i should, hitting up to like 74 celsius on one core out of the 4 and one sitting around 60 celsius. I'm going to remount the H100i that i have for the I5 4670k. I'm also using a Gtx 770 2gb EVGA ACX cooled. If i'm running OBS, pandora, possiblya couple other tabs, maybe skype. i'm easily hitting 90% usage while in game such as Smite / Farcry 3 / Dayz. Any ideas?
