I just recently installed Fedora 20 "Heisenburg" and after installing nvidia drivers, changing display settings, updating and resetting, I got the above message. I'm a newbie when it comes to Linux so, can anyone give me a step by step procedure on how to fix this. If it requires you to know the bootlog I have virtually know idea how to access them, so help me with that as well.

Was this while online? That sounds like the msg you get from a web site when they are having issues. Nothing to do with your system.

This happened after I restarted my system and booted back into fedora. It appeared on the login screen and gave only one button to logout after which I got a blank screen. I can still access the shell though. I think this message is designated as the fail whale. I was still connected online when this happened.

from the terminal check your /var/log/messages and xorg.log and maybe dmesg. Probably the nvidia driver is failing to load. How did you go about installing the driver? Probably the easiest way is this:

or manually

I did it manually through the terminal with instructions from another website.

okay so i checked the logs and it seems that from xorg.2.log to xorg.5.log the nvidia kernel module failed to load along with some other errors related to it.

If the module failed to load, double check that the nvidia module you installed was compiled against your exact kernel version, if they don't match it won't work.

Ye I actually solved the problem 2 months back, it seems that the Nvidia module bugged out when I tried to enable either mosaic or xinerama so I just left those disabled when I reinstalled the OS and now everything works fine :)  when I'm updating my driver I'll be sure to check that the Nvidia module was compiled with my current kernel module
