Memory usage increasing as time goes on

Hi there, I think I may have a possible memory leak and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to fix it.

My rig:

Intel Core i7
8 GB RAM
Windows 8
1 TB HDD

It's a Lenovo laptop.

When I boot up my computer the memory usage is around 25-30% according to task manager, which is all fine and dandy. But as I continue to use it, the used memory jumps higher and higher up. After about 8-12 hours of computing, I'm at around 88% used memory with all applications closed. Eventually, opening new tabs in Chrome starts to become extremely sluggish and my computer will lock up; I've got to do a hard reset to get it to shut down. If I reset however, it's right back down to that 25-30% usage.

Here's a screenshot of RaMMap after about 5 or 6 hours, with task manager saying I'm at around 68% with no processes running:

I don't know if this is of any importance, but when I go to view processes in RaMMap there are literally thousands of these little processes running using about 4k of memory each named powercfg.exe and conhost.exe. Pretty sure I'm not infected as I've run a full scan with both Avast and Malawarebytes. Here's the screenshot of the small processes, I've got to do at least 10 full scrolls of the mouse wheel to get that bar to move:

Thanks in advance for your time, I hope I'm able to find a solution.

Do you have a malware scanner installed? Do you have a virus scanner installed? If not, you need to get one installed for both types of infections and run a complete system scan. You might also want to find a good rootkit scanner and scan for rootkits. I recommend malwarebytes for both malware and rootkits. You have an infection and the multiple instances of conhost.exe is the indicator. If you google conhost.exe and virus together you will see what I mean. Here is some info on infections and what to do. You may need a specific removal tool for that infection.
