My computer is a gateway dx4870. I've seen tons of people post on here with similar problems with very little luck, and perhaps they found the solution on their own and never bothered to post back here.
I'm running Windows 7 Home premium.
I've updated my BIOS to the newest version.
I have a 500w power supply so power isn't an issue.
I've bought two video cards, an Nvidia GT740 and a Radeon R7 250x.
I thought it might just be nvidia, so i returned it. I bought something else instead in hopes that it was the card and a hardware thing. no such luck.
the card is seated firmly. the card shows a green dot signifying power as well as the fan turns on.
There is no "secure boot" option in my BIOS for me to turn off. or a legacy option for that matter.
i've disabled my onboard video card in control panel.
my VGA cable is connected and is not bad because it works in original VGA connection for the onboard video card.
any thoughts on what it could be? i've tried everything and am at wits end. maybe i should update my OS to windows 8 so i could disable secure boot? that seems like a lot of work.
