I have an external drive where I can't get my videos and pictures anymore. asking for a format.

I have an external drive where I have saved my videos and pictures for the past 4 years. Today I tried to access some pictures and my computer said I had to Format the drive if I wanted to use it. I can’t get any of my pics or files, is there a way for me to get my files back? I have wedding pictures and other important things :( Please help

Oh dear, you should have backed up the data to a second external hard drive before this problem appeared.
Never, never rely on just a single hard drive for your data.

Try the drive on a different PC. If you get the same result I can offer no further help other than suggest that you let a data recovery service deal with it if you can afford it.

Recovery software won't help until the drive can be read by the OS. That's the problem. It will still ask to be formatted whatever software you use.

File recovery software requires that the drive is working normally, it isn't.
