Hi there, I have a WD My Book Essential external hard drive, which was working yesterday, however today, it no longer works. I receive a pop up saying that "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it". Is anyone able to assist me to figure out what the issue is so that I can once again access the data on the ext hard drive please? Cheers.

Hi - try different USB ports if you haven't already. Especially USB 3.0 there's a good chance that
it's just that (happened to me).

Thank you, unfortunately I have tried all USB ports to no avail.

Bummer - Drive might have died - one more thing you can try before you bury the drive,
try another USB cable. One of the other things that has happened to me in the past, not
USB, but a bad DVI cable. I was about to trash the monitor until I tried another cable.

Keep my fingers crossed.

hi, i am facing the same problem and i'hv tried different cables as well as different drives but it still doent work . is there any other way i can fix it ?
