Hi, i have just assembled a new build, and all i can get it to do is get the CPU and PSU fan for a split second. I have the Motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, and RAM installed in the case with no drives and no expansion cards. What is causing this and how can i fix it? I have checked that there are no objects between the board and case.

What CPU cooler, motherboard, and PSU are you using? If it's a Corsair AX/AXi series, then did you read the manual? It states that until necessary, the fan will not spin.

Yes the standoffs are in place. CPU is a Core i3-4150. Mobo is a Gigabyte H81M-DS2. PSU is a SHAW from msy (good budget PSU, know alot of people who have them)

I think i may have figured it out, as the guy at the IT shop said it would need a BIOS update. I was planning to do that after, so could that be causing the issue?

they all work with the original bios check the cpu list on gigabyte so it is something else so i would recheck everything and try to plug a drive in .

I belive that the updated haswell CPU's from "Early 2014" need an update, but all of the "Mid 2013" CPU's will work out of the box. How would I update it, if I have no CPU that works correctly on that version? The PC shop did offer to do it for me though. I may go back later.
