How to improve my build?

Hello all,

I've spent the past few weeks choosing PC components and researching them, and I've managed to make a list of the parts I plan to get. Do you have any advise? Is the build overkill or too expensive? Are there parts that could be replaced by something more suitable?

List of components:
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 7 ASRock Z97 Extreme6
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB MSI Gaming (Twin Frozr)
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16 GB 8 GB (Low Profile)
HDD: WD Black SATA 6Gb/s WD1003FZEX - 1TB
SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 - 120GB Samsung 840 EVO - 120GB
Power Supply: Seasonic G-series 750Watt
CPU cooling: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3
Monitor: Eizo Foris FS2333
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Pearl Black

Price total is about €1700,- (about 2300 USD) €1635,- (about 2220 USD). I'm worried that this is too much for what I'll mainly be doing on the PC, namely playing games (think heavily modded Skyrim, Metro, CS:GO, etc.). What I want to achieve with this build, is being able to play the newest games at a solid 60 fps, even in the coming years. Any advice is appreciated!

  1. try checking out ASUS Brand for MOBO and GPU also GIGABYTE i think that this two brands are better then MSi everything else is good i heard that Corsair ram memories are the best try checking out them to and about the case try choosing one with more intake from the front that what you choose is just to closed this is all personal opinion dont hate :) check out cases from Corsair or CoolerMaster i have CM HAF 912+ and its very good and not that expensive
  2. This is a really high end great PC, the only thing I'll add is a larger SSD because a 120gb won't really be enough.
You should know that if your PC will not be used for video editing/renderin etc' you do Not need a i7 CPU, an i5 will perform just as good, same goes to the 16gb RAM, an 8gb will be just fine.
One last thing, msi i a nice brand but not so reliable, ASUS is the way to go.

    Where are you ordering from?

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into it.

Ordering from The Netherlands, I don't know which site yet. Also, thanks for the suggestions, perhaps you're right about the RAM and i5/i7 stuff. I only want to install Windows on the SSD so I don't really need one with more storage.

yes i have to agree with all except the SSD 120gb will be enough for OS he dont need to store anything on it except Windows no need to drop money on that couse they are expensive better to invest in something else like a good case and fans to keep it cool during the hot days here from where i am (Serbia) its like in f****ng africa 28c 10:30 In the morning maybe the AMD FX-8350 will be good choice to couse its very overclockable and better (Maybe) then a i5 and more future proof i think dont get me wrong but investigate this type in Google GPUBoss and compare there

I'm not a very big fan of AMD, so I'll pass on that. Besides, I'm not really sure what you're trying to say? AMD FX-8350 and Intel i5 are both processors, so GPUBoss (for graphic cards) won't help me a lot there anyway. Also, in reaction to your previous answer, the R4 case does have a front intake, you can choose to have that open or closed. There are 2 fans positioned behind the front intake too, so I think I will be fine with that case. Thanks for the suggestion though!
  6. Don't go with the kingston v300 ssd's, they switched out the internal components with cheap junk, here's proof: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/184253-ssd-shadiness-kingston-and-pny-caught-bait-and-switching-cheaper-components-after-good-reviews

Go with the crucial MX100 serie's or samsung 840 evo's instead.

I should've knew that before i got 2 of those for SO cheap.. ive benchmarked them just now and its true! so lame..

About the larger SSD, i suggested getting more then 120gb because i have it and its not enough because i do put some MP games that will take some advantage from the loading screens like BF4 (~30gb) of course with the OS and another game, Photoshop project or whatever thing you'll want to load and run faster = Not enough space on a 120gb SSD (only 100gb is really available).

Thanks a lot for telling me that! I will get one of these two SSDs instead then.

Shame you got ripped off like that... I'll consider getting a bigger SSD, however I'm pretty sure I'll just put my OS on it and then keep the rest as free space or perhaps one or two games as well. I want to keep some free space anyway since the SSD might be slowed down otherwise. I'll think a bit more about your advise though, much appreciated.
  10. Anyone else got any advice? Or am I good to go?

The only thing i'll do is change that weird looking yellow Crucial Ballistix Tactical RAM to another low profile black ones like this:
    http://www.4launch.nl/shop/get/p-1-subshop-Gaming#p-4-productid-350115

Because there are too many colors in your build - Black, blue, silver and this yellow that really stands out.

Otherwise just buy it and enjoy!

Even though I don't really care that much for colours, you got a good point. Might consider changing to Crucial Ballistix Sport (black RAM), since I like the reliability of Crucial. Thanks for the tips!
