Hello there, I would like to ask if my mobo(Asustek computer inc. p5g41t-m lx) can handle the Q6600.Currently I'm using a Pentium e5500 and a gt 240, I would pair the Q6600 with a HD 6950 2gb(both the cpu and gpu will cost me 245 bgn-170 usd)

More about : upgrading q6600

You should not have any problems.

Make sure you buy a G0 stepping Q6600 not a b3, as the G0 can be overclocked considerably further on standard volts.
But I guess you knew that. ;#}

For that kind of money i wouldn't bother with Q6600.
I's a slow CPU for modern games specially at 2.4GHz and intel G41 chipset isn't famous for it's overclocking abilities.

My e5500 is clocked at a stable 3.4GHz, I think I could oc the q6600 at least to 2.8GHZ or even 3GHz
and "For these kind of money I wouldn't bother with Q6600" the CPU is 40$, I only need a cheap upgrade 'till I finish school and get a job witch won't be happening for another year.

Now I am only going to say this 'once'.
The G (zero) stepping Q6600 was brought out by intel to kick the new Phenom Quad into touch upon its release, and the Intel cpu was reduced in price to about £110. This later G0 stepping version of the Q6600 would also overclock from 2.4 gig per core to 3 gig on standard volts(So the g41 chipset is irrelevant).
A Q6600 will still manage most tasks including most games today. Unlike the let down A.M.D. damp firework.
So if you have no actual experience or positive contribution to make, please feel free to share your knowledge on other more relivent posts.

There is no need to be rude as i contributed from personal experience.
I was using a Q6600 and a Q8300 until mid last year.
1 PC had a AMD7770 and other one AMD7850.
G41 and 43 chipsets could not get more than 100~150 MHz OC on the CPU's.
Both performed badly in BF3 and even in LoL, cheap an upgrade to dual core G3420 made a massive difference in FPS.
That is the reason why i said it's not worth investing in old technology.
Much more cost effective option would be to buy a Haswell pentium and a new board, then upgrade it to i5/i7 when OP has enough money.
G3450 $40 and a new board around $50.

You are missing the point. The post is not about what you have, its about what the poster has.
WHat he has, is a core 2 duo and he wants to double the power. He asks if his board can do this and then you tell him its all rubbish and throw it in the bin, because your machine is better. He lives in india where tech prices are higher to the working wage.
If he could afford a new haswell rig he would not be using 7 yr old tech.
Cheeses, you say I am being rude.

First of all i believe he is from Bulgaria and not India.
2nd at $170 budget i did mention prices and q6600 costs about same as G3420.
If he spends now on q6600 he will put that money in the bin in a years time when it's worth $5.
If he spends it on haswell board then he will be able to buy an i5/i7 for low price in a years time so the total spent on PC will be lower.
Also he can sell his current cpu/board to add to the budget.

I really don't get what is your problem? Guy asked for advice and i'm trying to help.
Q6600 being compatible is one thing but if it's a bad choice then why not try to suggest something else.

Here the G3420 is 100$, for 40$ I could get a g1820, but after some research I found out that even the g1820>q6600.
The problem is that I have to buy a new mobo for a g1820 and if I consider buying a mobo I would look for a used i3 or an i5 2nd(3rd and 4th are relatively new) gen witch are nowhere to be found here, the market is full with i7-920 witch cost about 60$ and I think they were at the performance of the Q6600. Don't really know what to consider from now on, I'm 100% sure about the HD6950 (decent card) and now I'm kinda 50/50 for the Q6600.

Ether way, thank you for the tip. :)

6950 is definitely a good card.
Can you not find a second hand G3420? I just sold one of mine for £23.
Cheapest h81 motherboard is about £30. Just can't do prices in $. :)
Check ebay UK, many sellers ship to europe at reasonable rates.

I found an i3 2100 on a h61 mobo, both for 80$ and now I'll have a possible upgrade path for future upgrades.Probably later when I upgrade I won't be getting a K version since OCing won't be that good, an i7 2600 or an i5 3570 would do just fine.

Thank you for saving me from a bad choice :)

You could actually go for 3rd gen CPU when you upgrade on that board as long as the bios supports it.
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/H61_Express.html

That is a really good price for a board and CPU.

what i meant is that some h61 boards don't offer bios compatible with 3rd gen but it seems you're good to go.
