extreme overheating issues over 60C up in under a minute

so my gpu is going from under 33c to well over 110c where it crashes the pc my pc specs are as follows

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650
Gaming graphics 2785 MB Total available graphics memory
Primary hard disk 843GB Free (931GB Total) (thats a one day old drive ;)  )


its a older gpu in a brand new pc and im extremely worried like its ideling at 40c at the moment i open runescape and it jumps to over 110c and i have to kill the computer asap or risk my system

is that idle or under load temps?

didn't read all of it. so it is under gaming load. runscape? there is no way in hell that you should be having 100c+ temps. that ain't normal.

yes and i just used the asus oc tweaker app to drop the gpu to half its max output and then put the fan up to 3000rpm and its still at 46C idle

your card is flat out broken. gpu overheating on even a miniscule load is a sure sign of it.

think i found the problem the gpu cooler is lose as in it is missing 2 of the 4 bolts that support it

can i just screw them back in and will it fix the issue? the heat sync isnt touching the gpu at the moment

Yes. Best to remove the heatsink, apply new thermal paste, and then firmly reattach the heatsink with all the screws.
