I was thinking of getting a Z97 motherboard to go with an i3-4130 for an office pc running Ubuntu. Does anyone have a recommendation - I was thinking of maybe getting a Gigabyte GA-Z97M-DS3H.

I think your plan is good.
You might get a lower price with a H97 based motherboard.
But... I like the Z97 which offers you a future upgrade path to 14nm broadwell or a overclockable "K" cpu.
I can't talk about Ubuntu issues.

Compare Gigabyte boards ^

Thanks for that link... I was struggling to make sense of the different gigabyte Z97 motherboards but that comparison page made it so much simpler for someone like myself who isn't used to buying mobos.

Don't suppose you (or anyone else?) know what the difference is between the GIGABYTE GA-Z97M-D3H and GIGABYTE GA-Z97M-DS3H motherboards?
