Hi there,

I was considering purchasing this RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro Series A - 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz

But then was thinking that it may be a waste since I will not be overclocking.

Is this still good memory to buy / is there something equally good for a lower price without overclocking capability?

Thanks a lot,
Amy

I would get some 1866mhz memory for haswell, judging from anandtechs article, memory speeds seem to scale pretty well on haswell until 1866-2133.
I can find 2x 8gb 1866 cl9 for 132€ compared to 120€ for 2x 8gb 1600 cl9. If it's actually worth it for you is your choice. I can't really recommend you any specific kit, though, as the only dd3 memory I have is a 16b 2400 g.skill ares kit. ;) Thanks to tradesman1 for the suggestion.

As long as you have decent RAM sticks you will see minimal improvement in performance by upgrading.

I would recommend finding the cheapest 1600 MHz sticks which got good reviews regarding stability.
Also look for reviews saying that they recieved defect RAM or that it broke after a year or two.
Most brands also gives you a lifetime warranty on the RAM, which you should make sure you get.

When it comes to the size, you will probably do fine with 8GB too, but that's up to you to decide.
You get no benefit at all by having 16GB over 8GB if you don't use it, but on the other hand you get
much better performance with 16GB over 8GB if you are using more than the 8GB of RAM.

Good luck on finding new RAM sticks! :)
