I am looking to replace my Home Server, which runs "Home Server 2011". The motherboard seems to be giving me issues. I only run it on the weekends as I have it set up to push updates and back on SUN Nights. But the last couple of times that I have started it up on Friday, it would power up and not boot, I don't not have a monitor connected to it, so I only connect remotely and of course the other Pc connect to it as usual. But I have found that I have had to start it up a few time, (2 or 3) for it to boot. Sometimes it is not an issue.

Since I have put a lot of $$ in too my recent gaming system and my Study server (Server 2012), I do not want to invest anymore $$ in another PC.

Currently the Home Server is running on a Intel 975X board with a Pentium 965, with 3GB of Ram and 6 500GB WD Blue drives and old NVidia 6800

My planned replacement is an Asus P5Q, with Q9650 or E8500/8400 (cannot remember) 8GB of Ram and keep the 6 500GB Blue, and add a 500 Black and 500 Green (as back up drive). and old NVidia 6800

I am debating about the CPU.

Would this be a good replacement??

Main usage:

1. Back Up
2. Updates
3. Moderate Streaming of Music
4. Storage (Photos)

Any comments would be appreciate.

How much would those item cost you or are they existing parts? Q9650 would be the more powerful cpu if you already got them or get them for cheap

Because something like NUC from intel or BRIX from GIGABYTE sounds like a good solution as back up servers. (in a bigger case ofc, maybe custom build pc using something similar.)

I apologize, Yes, these are existing Parts, CPU/RAM are from my old gaming PC and P5Q is a motherboard (which has a E8400/8500) I got from a used PC I got traded in on a NEW PC Build. I was considering just using the XFX 750i, but it only has 4 SATA as opposed to the P5Q, which has up to 6, I believe.

I also did not mention, I would be using an NZXT Source 210 as my case, old Gaming case. The current server is using Antec P180.

Based on your suggestion, I will move on with the Q9650. Thanks.
