I want to buy a G750. Is it a good time to be buying one? No price drops soon incoming? What site/store should I buy it from (where can I get the best deal)?

Which model to buy? I am thinking of getting this lowest speced model and upgrading parts later if needed. Is that a good idea?

I will be using it for a lot of studying/exam taking. I need reliability so i chose asus and their premium quality line. I also will do some audio/photo/video editing/gaming.
I will be using it in a hot and humid environment, and this laptop's cooling seemed to be unmatched in dealing with heat.
Although the display is not an ips display, it should still be good enough right? Really hoping it is a matte display but can't find much info on it.

I just wanted to get a confirmation if I made the right choice. And wasn't misunderstanding anything about the laptop. Also is there are anything else out there that I should consider before i drop the $ on this thing?

***>Also what waterproof backpack would you recommend for this huge laptop?

Thank you so much for the help!! I'm so excited for this laptop.

rule of thumb is buy the best laptop you can when you buy one. 99% of a laptop can not be upgraded, ram, HHD, and maybe the cd/dvd can be replaced. Every once in awhile you can get away with a cpu upgrade but its not recommended since to cooler might not be able to handle the extra heat. Gpus are a no go for upgrades.

so getting a low spec model and upgrading latter just doesn't pan out for laptops.

Thank you for the input! I greatly appreciate it ^_^

i think the only upgrading i plan to do is add more ram/an ssd soooo i feel like i'd be fine with an 860M as I don't plan on gaming that much. Also the real world use difference between an 860M, 870M, and 880M shouldn't be that noticeable right...? I don't really care about running stuff at MAX settings. I usually find certain graphics effects quite annoying and turn them off anyway. I just care about getting a steady 60+fps and actually being able to run the game.

Also, I was thinking 860M would consume the least power, thus longer battery life :D right?

My current DESKTOP which i feel is plenty amazing for me has a gtx 260, 6gb ram, i7 930, and no ssds. lol sooo yea. only minor thing that annoys me about it is that the gtx 260 can't do dx11+ so can't run the new games like watchdogs.

And what waterproof bag should i buy for this beastly large laptop???

so yeah guys, what do you think? am i crazy? haha

Hi,

There is about a 15-20 fps difference between the 860M and the 880M. The 880M is the only mobile card that can even remotely play WatchDogs with medium or high settings and a decent frame rate. But for most games, the 860M will be fine :) Yes, the 860M should consume less power with slightly prolonged battery life.

As for the waterproof bag, most laptop cases will do, but this laptop is definitely BIG so a backpack might make more sense.
