Hi, my new used pc just arrived. I don't own a dvi cord of micro hdmi (or what ever its called) to plug into the gpu. So before I get one I decided to plug it into the motherboard. There is no display from the hdmi ports or the vga (onboard). Why is this? I tried on my old monitor which does work and the kitchen tv.

I don't think my pc is broken as my motherboard isn't making any noises or have any flickering lights or anything.

The specs are as follows:
Corsair CX 500W
i3 540 3.06GHz Clarkdale overclocked to 4.20GHz
- Gigabyte H55M-UD2H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Xigmatek Dark Knight CPU Cooler
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (It looks like it may be 2X4gb)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Gigabyte GeForce GTS 450 OC 1024MB GDDR5
Realtek 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)
LG DVD+/-RW SATA Drive

That PC have a gts 450 which is a dedicated graphic card.
Dedicated graphic cards will disable onboard graphics

On Desktop PC's with integrated graphics on the motherboard, you can output display from there or a dedicated GPU. Usually, when you plug in an HDMI or a VGA/DVI into the incorrect port without changing it from within your OS, you may get a no display simply because it wasn't set to the correct output, if that makes any sense. Just try to get the display to come on like you said, then from your OS such as Windows, go to display from control panel and set it accordingly. Then, when you set it to your HDMI, make sure the drivers are also updated, and if you had no hardware problems to begin with, it should work, Good luck!

You can buy a mini hdmi to hdmi adapter to use the GTS 450 or just take it out to get a display. Or you can mess around with the BIOS to make the on board graphics work

ether open the computer and pull the 450 out to use the onboard video or go out and buy the right cable/ adapter to use the dedicated 450 gpu
