Hello all I finally finished my build a few days ago and iv gotten everything installed and running. Here are my specs to start with (and sry if im not posting in the correct section of the forum):

Windows 7 64bit
AMD FX-6300 CPU
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
PNY GTX 650
1TB WD HDD
900w Rocketfish - 80 Plus Silver - SLI Ready PSU
Logitech G15 keyboard with MX518 Mouse

So im looking for a antivirus that's not going to bog my system because I game a lot. I already got malwarebytes(free version for on demand only) and Superantispyware free(on demand). I thought about MSE?? Or Avast free. Heres the BIG thing tho IM NOT ON A PRIVATE NETWORK. Anyone got any suggestions. Id like to be safe then sorry. I may even need a fire wall but I don't want to much on my rig thats not needed. Free or Paid antivirus, im up for any suggestions

I would replace that PSU ASAP as it is complete junk. A 500w unit from Antec, XFX, Seasonic is what you want.

For Anti-Virus I only use MSE and common sense. I have never once had an issue. I have heard both AVG and Avast are good though.

I typically click avast in the ninite packages i put together for formats/fresh installs...

here's a review:

here's the conclusion:
fter considering all the results — from our Features Comparison and Performance Comparison [Detection Rates, Malware Removal Effectiveness, Computer Impact, Real-Life Protection Rates] sections — I rank Avira Free, avast Free, and Panda Cloud Free the top three best free anti-virus programs for Windows (in no particular order):

Avira Free for its excellent detection and malware removal
Panda Cloud Free for its excellent detection, good removal, and the fact that it is cloud-based — an offering that allows people a viable alternative to traditional AVs
avast Free for its combination of excellent features with good detection and removal while having lower false positives than Avira Free and Panda Cloud Free

Acually this psu aka huntkey x7 is fantastic check this and I would never trust an antec for the life of me. antec is the same quality as a raidmax or rosewell

its the 500w and 600w modles of the rocketfish that suck ass. I have a brand new EVGA 600B 600w 80 plus bronze as well. Anyways on topic

There is a review that says that the unit doesn't even pass 80+ Bronze certification when the temp is raised. Honestly, Hardwaresecrets is WAY WAY more reputable than itocp.

The PSU really is not great for what it is. I would have a 600w Antec, XFX, Seasonic all day over this unit.

The PSU is 100% the single most important part of a system. Just trying to help avoid a catastrophe. Waiting until you have an issue to replace it is a horrible mistake as if it fails, it can fry the whole system. Happens all the time.

Anyway, I also like Bitdefender Free. AVG free is also decent. I used it on my junk laptop for a while before just deciding to go with malewarebytes, MSE, and knowledge.

It seems as though you are more worried about attacks and issues for others on your public network correct? In that case, a strong firewall (although often rage enducingly annoying) might be your best bet.

Agreed. Panda Cloud is definitely not my go-to for a free Anti-Virus.
