Hello all I finally finished my build a few days ago and iv gotten everything installed and running. Here are my specs to start with (and sry if im not posting in the correct section of the forum):

Windows 7 64bit
AMD FX-6300 CPU
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
PNY GTX 650
1TB WD HDD
900w Rocketfish - 80 Plus Silver - SLI Ready PSU
Logitech G15 keyboard with MX518 Mouse

So im looking for a antivirus that's not going to bog my system because I game a lot. I already got malwarebytes(free version for on demand only) and Superantispyware free(on demand). I thought about MSE?? Or Avast free. Heres the BIG thing tho IM NOT ON A PRIVATE NETWORK. Anyone got any suggestions. Id like to be safe then sorry. I may even need a fire wall but I don't want to much on my rig thats not needed. Free or Paid antivirus, im up for any suggestions

by 'not on a private network' I assume you plug directly into your modem, instead of a router?

I'll suggest Avast as a good freeware/nagware TSR Virus scanner.

I don't know bout firewalls, I've generally used a combination of NAT though the router and Windows Firewall, and haven't had much trouble

Actually the better on the market is AVIRA, Panda, or kapersky (my choice would be AVIRA since it is free) check this there this website is benchmarking antiviruses software :

For even more safety, Buy a router, connect it to your modem, and connect your computer to your router.

I know it sound silly but routers have integrated firewall which are much better than any software you can get. you can get a router for 15 $ and it is a piece of safety extremely effective. See this article to know how does this work and why : http://www.howtogeek.com/122065/htg-explains-i-have-a-router-do-i-need-a-firewall/

to make this short, Router gives you a firewall which can't be infected by any viruses and allow you to change dynamic DNS and many other feature you could not get with a simple modem.
