Hi everyone and thanks for the help in advance

I have a FX- 8320 stock speed(not planning to overclock it) and a R9 280X sapphire toxic.
games like: farcry 3, watch dogs, borderlands 2, dead island, world of tanks, warthunder ( only in ground forces). i have to lower some settings on these games and even then i got like 35 fps and i want to get the best out of my system. I know that my gpu should handle these games just fine, so will it be a good idea to change my cpu to an i5 4690? or even an i7? A lot of people are saying that 8320 is a good cpu. But when it comes down to these games, i start wondering.

I wont be doing overclocking and i know someone to sell my cpu to. money isnt an issue.
if i go for intel, is it very helpfull to get an i7, or should i go for the i5 4690?

thanks for the help and greets from holland!

Absolutely! Motherboard quality isn't really an issue anymore where back in the core 2 days it was more dependant on the motherboard than it was on the CPU, now it's the other way around. You can get to 4.5GHz easy with a H55, and your RAM is fine. If you need help overclocking you can ask for help under the overclocking section, people will be glad to help you out there. Overclocking the 8320 is very, very easy to do. Just try to keep your temps under 75c. :)

My normal advise is to get the I5 for gaming. But it's not worth it to spend the money to switch from the 83xx to the i5. Yes you are losing a bit of speed, but it's not worth the $300+ to swap it. You said money isn't an issue so its up to you. I went with the i5 3570K over the 81xx, I'd still take it over the 83xx. But if I bought the 83xx I wouldn't stress to much over it.

If money isn't an issue, then I'd strongly suggest getting a Z/H 97 motherboard with a 4690k/4790k. You don't have to overclock now, but in the future I'd highly recommend looking into overclocking, even something as simple as 4.2GHz goes a long way and usually doesn't require any more voltage at all, meaning that the CPU lifetime will be completely unaffected. However, a slight voltage bump will push it to 4.5GHz easily, and that's a full 1GHz on each core, 4x1GHz = a full 4GHz more CPU power, it's like adding an extra core of performance for the 4690k. Overclocking is a lot easier than it looks and Tomshardware would be able to help you with that in the future should you be interested in it.

Go into the bios, and change the multiplier to 20. It will basically turn your FX 8320 into an FX 8350, for free. ;) You don't have to change anything else. I would try that before you bother switching out hardware.

The problem with your CPU is that it has 8 really slow cores, so if the game can't utilize those 8 cores properly and only uses 4 for example, your CPU's max potential is cut in half, and you're only giving the game 4 slow cores to work with. The only way to improve the performance is to overclock, which is speeding up those cores. However, Intel CPUs have MUCH faster cores, but 4 of them. Therefore, games like world of tanks and war thunder that don't really use a lot of cores really benefit from having 4 fast cores versus 4 slow cores, hence why the 4690k and 4790k do much better in some games versus the FX CPUs. Even my i7 3610QM at 3.3GHz and GTX 680m at 980MHz/5Gbps (around GTX 760 performance) gets no lower than 35FPS in the games you mentioned, and your GPU is much more powerful than mine, however I have the Intel CPU. FX CPUs are really only really good for gaming after you overclock them to something like 4.5GHz, but you need a decent cooler to do so.

the problem is that i have a cheap motherboard and a h55 watercooler from corsair, also i have 1333mhz kingstond ddr3. can i still get the multyplier to 20 without problems?

Yea, it would not be any different than if you had installed an FX 8350 instead. They are the same CPU, with just a different multiplier. Mine are paired up with cheap GA-78LMT-USB3 boards. One has stock cooler and the other has an old 90mm Zalman cooler.
