I have now spent more than a day, wasted, trying to get these wretched machines in the same Network.
One fundamental Question is WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NETWORK LOCATION and WORKGROUP?
For Instance, I have the Win 7 Pro connected to active netwrok - WORKGROUP, yet Network in Computer shows it connected to that location and then Workgroup as NETWORK 2.
At times, I have been able to see all 3 PCs on the Win Pro 7 machine as is the case now, so that is OK. However I am also trying to set up my Canon MP500 (no network card) attached to a Virtual USB on the Pro 7 as a network printer. MY home 7 cannot access the Pro 7 at all.
File sharing & Printer are shared on this Pro 7.
Can anyone answer these questions as all my reading of various links/discussions bring me no closer.
I have rebooted machines multiple times to no avail.
Appreciated

The XP machine seen from Win 7 Pro is Location Workgroup and workgroup = Workgroup

Solution
If you dont have one of the pc's acting as a server/domain controller then make sure when you setup the W7's that you selected a Workgroup type network.
Start> Rt click my computer> Properties> On the Computer Name Tab, click the change button. The member of button should be on workgroup and I always name it WORKGROUP. LoL

For starters, all the pcs will need to be in the same workgroup. (network location is the Domain)

To find or change the workgroup name on a computer running Windows XP
-Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-In System Properties, click the Computer Name tab to see the workgroup name. To change the name, click Change, type the new name in Computer name, and then click OK.

To change the workgroup name on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows 7
-Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.
-Under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, click Change settings.
-In System Properties, on the Computer Name tab, click Change.

Thanks for the response, at least I have some explanation of Network Location.
Unfortunately nothing resolved.
Switching XP to same as 7s, being NETWORK 2, made it disappear fm sight on Win 7 Pro. The 7 machines are both as stated.
Since I have everything in Network Location WORKGROUP, do You think I should change the Domain or Network Location for the 7 PCs? How would I do that?
