i've just ordered a new PC build and think i might have messed up.

I've gone and ordered the Kaveri 7700k and i'm using an R9 290x gaming card. Now i didnt really do enough research and from what i've read now, the Kaveri isnt a great CPU for a gaming rig.

I wasnt really interested in the built in graphics so we can ignore that part, but just need to know if i should return the CPU and go for an Intel i5 instead.

Is the Kaveri 7700 on a par with an Intel i5 card for about £130

Please help.

i5 and 7700k are both quad cores. Per core performance definitely goes to Intel. You would have to also replace the motherboard.

i5-4690k is the latest and can be overclocked, you would need a Z97 motherboard. Slightly cheaper Intel would be the i5-4590 and an H97 motherboard.

Alternatively you could stick with AMD, but go for an FX8320 or FX8350, again a new motherboard would be required. 970 chipset or a 990FX for maximum overclock potential.

Both setup ideally require an aftermarket heatsink to avoid excessive noise while gaming.
