Windows 8.1 Office 2007

I have Win8.1 Lenovo machine, Asus external slim optical drive and installer disk for Office 2007 Professional Plus with a product key on it. My system won't recognize the installer disk - it just spins around and around. What to do? - which piece is the problem??

Thanks for the response. The Lenovo has ONLY 2 USB ports (annoyed at this) so I got a EFC 4 port Hub ( I think that's the name). It turns out that was the problem - when I plugged the driver directly into the computer I worked OK.
