I have a large format digital printer that is connected via ethernet cable directly to my pc (Win 7 64 bit) It makes its own web page to control the printer and after about 30 sec. of no activity it will time out and take about a minute to connect again. Does anyone have a clue what I've done wrong?

If by direct connection, you mean with a cross over cable between lan ports, this can happen as it may not be getting a stay alive signal.

More likely you just need to amend the power down time-out within the printers web configuration interface, this is what a printer is supposed to do to reduce power usage and wear when idle.

I've made sure that Windows doesn't manage the power settings on the NIC card it is plugged into and the printer hasn't had any firmware updates or changes in over a year. It never used to do this until I changed the PC it was connected to. I sold the old PC so it is impossible to compare settings but the IP address is the same and the OS was the same
