Hi,

I just received my Tri-X R9 290 4GB from Newegg.ca and as soon as I got all the drivers installed and opened up CCC, I noticed that my idle temps were ~38C. When I run Furmark, they shoot up to 79C after a couple of minutes. Are these temps normal? According to the site below, the card should be idling at 30C and under Furmark, the temps should be around 74C.

My idle temps are the real concern after look at the site. They are close to the 41C of the reference card! Again, is this normal or should I RMA the card?

The help is appreciated!

It’s pretty normal. AnandTech does their testing on an open air test bench also they don’t seem to mention it but I imagine they have a aircon running as well. The important thing is to look at load temperatures, from the days of research i did when buying my card i can safely say the Tri-X is probably the second best cooler for the current gen AMD cards (Vapor-X being the best).

38C isn’t that bad, my R9 290 Vapor Xs crossfire idles at ~48C (top card) 38C (bottom card) @20% fan speed (with IFC, basically means only 1/3 fans are running when not under load).

Edit: My Load temperatures for your reference, top card 80C @50% Fan speed after 5 mins of furmark, so your temperatures are completely fine. Remember these cards are designed...
