NEED HELP ASAP! sapphire r9 280x vapor-x power connector ULTRA LSP 550W 8+6-pin good enough?

As title says am I good with this?

I got this sapphire r9 280x card. I've got a 550W reliable power supply. The card says it needs "750W (or greater) power supply with one 150W 8-pin and one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended". Now the problem is I can make 8 pin out of 2 molex to 8 pin converter. Then I have 2 6 pins left. Can I just used the 6 pin and plug it to the 2nd 8 pin connector on the card as it only requires "one 150W 8-pin and one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended"? What other modifications do I have to do? Please reply asap.

  1. Nope, you can't do that, you can't put 6pin connector in 8pin hole. You should have gotten 2 of 6+2 pin converters in box with that GPU, so all you need is to slide off two pins of one converter. I don't remember whether they should be on the right or left side, but if you name side which goes into GPU "the bottom" you need to push those pins upwards to slide them off.

Edit: scratch that, I just remembered that vapor x has two 8 pin connectors, forget what it says just connect those two 8 pin connectors to your GPU.

My power supply supports 30 amps on the 12v rail so am I good to have 2x 4-pin to 8-pins going to the gpu? And can I run the 4-pin molex to 8-pin on the same wire from the psu which has two molex sticking out?

If you have a Sapphire R9 280x Vapor-X, then you should need 2 8-pin PCIe power connectors. Mine does. You should also be using a 750W or better PSU. R9 280x is nothing but a refresh of the HD7970 Gigahertz Edition and the power requirements haven't changed since then.
  4. Brand/model PSU?? Your power supply sounds like it will not handle a 280x.
