Overclocking Stress Test Temps?

I was watching a video on how to OC, and was overclocking my CPU while watching. I followed all directions and overclocked from 4.0 ghz to 4.2, but during the stress test (using Prime95) my CPU temp shot up over 70 degrees C. I quickly stopped the test, but I'm wondering what went wrong.

Specs:
CPU: FX-8350
GPU: R9 280X
Motherboard: M5A99FX
CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO

Anyone who has an idea of what happened, it would mean a lot to me to help out.

(This is my first time trying to overclock).

Did you check the temps at idle and under stress before you overclocked? That's a pretty low overclock so I'd assume they were already high before you overclocked it. Drop back down to stock clocks and run the same stress test and see what they are.

Well I checked the temps of my CPU at 4.2, and at idle, it is around 17 degrees Celcius, and I even ran some of my more intensive games, and the highest it reached was 59 with it hovering in the mid 40s. How do those temperatures seem? (This is still at 4.2)

I'll go back down to stock clocks and check, but I want to know if I really have to or not.

I am using Prime95, small FFTs is the test.

I dropped back down to 4.0 and ran the same stress test and it once again shot up to 70C, and it probably would have gone higher had I not stopped it. I don't understand what is wrong, because I've been using this computer for a while before I decided to overclock it.

The idle temp is the same, with gaming a degree or two cooler.

Actually I meant to change that, it is idling at around 20-25 degrees, and my AC is set to 68 degrees, but I will check with another program too.

Ok I don't know if this is will help, but AMD Overdrive shows that my CPU has a thermal margin of around 45C, and Speedfan shows two temperatures, one is at 37C and the other 30C. I'm not sure what these two are for.

CPUID HWMonitor says the CPU temp is around 23C
Core Temp shows it at around 23C.
Open Hardware Monitor shows around 23C

It seems to be around 23C with google chrome and all the CPU Temp software open
