I just built my pc and installed a asus r9-280x. The first time i booted it up it had two vertical lines go through the center of the screen. I just figured that it was driver issues so put in the asus cd that comes with the card and put that in after getting windows 8 setup. After the asus cd installed the drivers it was fine after the restart. No vertical lines so i was ecstatic. However while waiting for steam games to download I decided to play minecraft. And it worked wonderfully for 5 minutes. Then it crashed. I restarted it and crashed again in the minecraft launcher. Tried it once more and it crashed on google chrome. It would just freeze so i was forced to restart it. After i restarted it the last time the same vertical lines were back. Now it won't even boot past the gigabyte motherboard loading screen to windows. After the loading screen it just goes black. I really have no idea what to do now. Ive tried reseating the card, tried different power cables, tried different pcle slots, and i tried hitting it with a hammer(just kidding). Im really just at a loss of words and don't want to have to RMA it.

just an update. I used driver fusion to remove the drivers i installed earlier. Now i can use the graphics card to boot past windows with the original vertical lines. Should i use the cd i got with the graphics card to install drivers or amd.com?

ok well I've been fiddling around a little with the card. I can get it to boot and everything however whenever i download the amd display driver from the catalyst install manager it gets halfway done and goes to a black screen and doesn't change. I waited over an hour and then restarted it. It crashes everytime i try it. And blacksheep I just don't want to half to wait for it to get checked as I leave for the Air Force soon...

Alright welllllll... I know I for sure downloaded the beta drivers that you recommended, however, when I move the hdmi cable from the mother board to the graphics card I still get the vertical lines and I can't boot past windows... Surely I couldnt of downloaded the drivers wrong right? I used driver fusion to uninstall the old drivers along with the catalyst install manager uninstall option... when i boot from my motherboard with integrated graphics, and with my graphics card plugged in I can see it under device manager with the new drivers I installed. Yet when I try to boot with just my graphics card it don't do jack...
