I've been fighting with this new build for about 10 hours with no luck. I power on and all fans and LEDs turn on, no error sound from the mobo. gigabytes logo pops up onto the screen and quickly disappears. Then I get the following message.

"Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press a key"

I use ctrl-alt-delete to restart the process and hammer delete to get to the bios but when I registers that I hit delete I get a black screen. I'm guessing that it has to be trying to boot from my blank ssd.

When I press a key the same message is displayed again below the first. Here are my system specs.

Gigabyte 970a-ds3p
AMD FX 8320
Gigabyte 280x
Crucial mx100 256gb SSD
Sony Optiarc DVD drive
ThermalTake New Soprano Case
Kingston red Hyper X 2x4gb 1866mhz

Update: I tried what foxvox suggested and now the gigabyte screen flashes before changing to a black screen with no cursor. When the screen changes to black I get one short audible beep from the mobo. The screen resolution also changes from 800x600 to 640x480 on its own. I am connected to a Visio tv to the gpu through hdmi. Thank you all for the assistance

I updated the original post after disconnecting the ssd. I get one short beep from the mobo after the gigabyte screen then a black screen. Screen resolution changes from 800x600 to 640x480 when it goes to the black screen. What does one short beep mean?

The short audible beep can mean that you entered the BIOS, however, motherboard manufacturers use different beep codes and you will need to consult the user manual/gigabyte's forum.

The more I think about this, are you sure your Visio supports that resolution?

Turns out it was the display. I boot right into the bios now. I set the default boot disc to my DVD drive but I get this press any key screen that I can't get past. When I press a key to boot the disc nothing happens. Should I just get a usb drive to install windows?
