I've always built my own desktops. I'm running my own business with a partner and I need a laptop I can use in the field (not the wilderness, just outside the home) for basic internet access. It would be great if it weren't slow as a turtle compared to what I'm used to at home (custom-built gaming PC) even just browsing the web, but minimizing cost is the objective.
That said, it's no good if it's so cheap it should be expected to fail in 12-18 months time with only a 12 month warranty or something.
So low-cost, reliable, but if all $299 laptops are junk, tell me. I've never bought one.
