Hi. I'm a first time PC builder and don't have much knowledge in this field. So far I've decided on the FX-6350, a R9 270x video card, a Samsung 840 EVO, G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 RAM as well as a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler. I was wondering what my best choice for a motherboard would be. I would prefer a motherboard that supports overclocking, but I'm not looking to OC very much (I'd just like the capabilities there). So far I've considered the ASUS M5A97 R2.0, ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0, GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P, and GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3. Would a motherboard with an 990FX chipset be worth the extra cost over motherboard with a 970 chipset? I definitely don't want the motherboard to "bottleneck" the rest of the build (if it's even possible for a motherboard to do that). Thanks.

Ths list will be of help. These are the boards with robust VRMs that can handle some overclocking stress.

990FX is simply more PCI lanes which is useful for driving multiple graphics cards. Not important if you only have one GPU.

U would get the UD3P as it has great phases and is pretty cheap to boot

chipset shouldn't bottleneck afaik

motherboards do have minor variations between then in performance but usually under 5%
