solution to usb 3.0 device into 2.0 port problem

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop(Intel Core 2 Duo) with all 2.0 USB ports.
I know USB 3.0 supports backward compatibility but whenever I connect an external HDD(USB 3.0) to my laptop it shows the message as driver installation failed.
Any solution to this problem will be highly appreciated.
NOTE: I have Windows 7 installed in my laptop.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards.

  2. Have you downloaded and installed the driver for your external HDD? If not, do so.
