I'm planning on building my first pc and I don't won't to go into the trouble of updating my mobo because the bios isn't up to date with my chosen cpu, I've chosen the msi z97 pc mate atx lga1150 mobo and the i5 4690k, just wondering if anyone could tell me if that set up is okay straight off the bat or if I need a bios update, thanks

Nothing to worry about, regardless of BIOS version. 4690k, although a refresh, is also haswell like previous versions, nothing fundamentally changed here - it would still work, and you can update the BIOS yourself if you need the latest one. You would only have to wory if this new CPU had a completely different architecture or process node.
