Hi, I recently built a desktop and have a question on plugging in 8 pin PCIe cable to 6 pin connector. So, I have EVGA 600B PSU, MSI Radeon R9 270 GPU and ASRock z97 Extreme 4 Mobo. My PSU has 6+2 pin PCIe cable and my GPU has 6 pin connector, and right now, I've just plugged in 6 pin part of the PCIe cable into GPU with extra 2 pins pushed out (dangling around) to the side. However, my PSU's manual says "do not attempt to plug an 8 pin PCIe cable into a 6 pin connector without first detaching the 2 extra pins". I am confused in that if I had to physically cut or pull out 2 extra pins before I plugged in the PCIe cable to 6 pin connector? Please help, thank you.

Nothing wrong with having the two pins just sit there. If you are overly concerned you can put some electrical(black) tape on the loose pins. That is why they are called 6+2 pin connectors, so they can be used for both.

Take anything you read in computer manuals, most of the people that write them have English as a second language.

The power cables from my PSU had a 6+2 connector also that was actually a "break away" type where the 2 unused ones snapped off the connector. You could also press the pins out of those 2 connectors and remove them fully to prevent any sort of short.
