Just installed a new graphics card in my new build from last year:

FX6300, M5A97 R2.0 MOBO, Corsair Vengeance 8GB RAM, XFX 550W PSU.

Booted into Windows, installed the drivers, restarted and went through the boot fine but I've got only a black screen when Windows boots (I have audio and can hear the Windows startup sound).

Booted into 'safe mode' and uninstalled the Windows-installed drivers and installed the drivers from disc that came with card. Rebooted and same problem!

Other things of note:
1. It's a VGA monitor with a VGA to DVI adapter connecting it to the card.
2. If I unplug the monitor after Windows has booted and wait around 10-15 seconds, then plug it back in, the screen comes on fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. I tried this (even though I have no means of attaching the monitor as I've no VGA port on mobo) and it booted up and I got the startup sound from Windows.

Yep, sounds like Windows has booted but no onboard graphics so black screen.

Like I say, if I unplug the connection to video card and plug it back in again, I get the display back. I can log into Windows and play videos, games etc.

It's just the inconvenience of having to do that every time the computer boots.

check the cables vga/dvi and if the cables are okk replace your card i think this has something to do with the display ports of the card

Okay, so I tried with the TV via HDMI port, booted up fine with 1280x720 resolution, I changed the resolution to 1920x1080 and restarted and it booted into Windows fine again. Double checked by shutting down and starting, again it was fine.
So common denominator is either monitor or VGA port on card?

yes its then a port problem check with a different dvi cable to clear your doubts if its the cards dvi port which have been faulty then you can use a hdmi input and dvi output and if your monitor have the hdmi then you can use both hdmi input and output..

Just one thing though, if it's a hardware problem why does it work after I unplug then plug it in again? Surely it shouldn't work at all?

yes that's because the port is slack or having some kind of short problem its better u make sure weather its the gpu or the monitor port then replace the gpu as u have buyed it new there will be no problem replacing it with a new one..
