Hey, Earlier I purchased ram online and only just realised i purchased ECC ram and that it is designed for servers. I purchased this ram for my new gaming rig and was wondering if it is worth using it? I know i have to find a mobo that supports ECC but is it worth still using it or not?
If it is still worth using the ram what mobo support this ram?

Hi,

If your CPU and motherboard don't support ECC then the ECC components of the module will not work. If the module is also registered (registered memory and ECC are almost always found together) then this may also present problems.

If the module has ECC but is not registered then it may still work, with the ECC component just being ignored (it's nothing more than a 9th DRAM IC)...
It's not really worth it. The ECC ram uses more power generally, creates more heat and costs more for equivalent parts to normal consumer memory. Also, the speeds offered on ECC ram are usually lower with generally higher latency timings, so definitely return it.

However, I haven't been able to verify this as I don't have components to test and it's hard to find the appropriate information on available datasheet.

My recommendation follows others, seek a refund and/or exchange for the appropriate product.
