What's the best setup for a professional Photographer/Photoshopper?

I see that there are many stickies for best configs, but none for Photographers/Photoshoppers.

I have a guy who has a problem with his machine, and I'd like to be able to know what the best setup is. I will post a separate thread about his problems.

Solution
I'll not get into specific parts, but an i7, plenty of RAM, plenty of hard drive space, good IPS monitor or two, and a tested daily backup plan.

Especially the backup part.

Thanks for this. What about drive setup/scratch disks/RAID 0 etc? Any preferences?..

I'm not a pro photog, but I do a lot of hobby level photography. Mainly with Lightroom and Paintshop Pro. Maybe 5,000 shots/year.

Drives:
SSD for the OS and applications.
Second SSD for working files and images
Large HDDs for final storage of the images.
I also have a 4GB RAMdisk for Lightroom scratch space.

RAID 0 - I wouldn't. An SSD is faster than 2 x HDDs in RAID 0, with less chance of fail.

This guy does photoshop lectures and demos, also has published books on Lightroom, so although you're hobby level, you'll still have similar reqs, so thanks for the info :)

How do you have your RAMdisk set up? What do you use?

AMD Radeon RAMDisk

4GB, mapped as the "X" drive.

I'm assuming you use part of your primary drive as the RAMDisk?
