Windows 7 will not Boot, asks for the installation disc.

A friends laptop will not boot. The screen asks for the installation disc to be in the laptop. The laptop is a few years old and she does not have the installation disc. I have tried a number of ways to start it but the laptop is having none of it, it keeps going back to the installation screen.
Suggestions?!

Contact the laptop manufacturer, they may be able to supply you with a set of factory recovery discs for a small charge.
I got mine that way from Toshiba when previous owner had installed the wrong (and unsupported) OS on my second-hand Satellite, wiping out the recovery partition in the process. Good as new now though.
