How can I get at data I can view data on external drive for a moment but windows will not recognize drive

Windows 7 32 briefly recognizes this a wd passport se drive and I can open and see files. Then within 3 seconds, windows unrecognizes device and decides is it's an unknown usb. Help!! I really want this data and I can touch it! Just not long enough to capture it.

Since Passport drives are totally USB-powered, it could be lack of sufficient power through the port on the PC.
It happened to me, constant connect/disconnect (accompanied by the related event sound).
