Hey,

I bought MSI GT70 laptop like 2 months ago with 870m and i7-4700MQ and it's been destroying games like there's no tomorrow I couldn't be more satisfied with it but I hit a problem just today.

When I play DE:HR my GPU overheats like crazy till like 80+ degrees even when I have cooler booster option on! The laptop barely goes beyond 78 degrees in Watch Dogs on max settings and I don't even need cooler booster when playing Dota 2 or DayZ Mod or League of Legends or hell Starcraft 2 on max for long long hours Temps are like ~70 Degrees Celsius.

I live in Georgia so it's pretty hot during summer but that doesn't mean that computer should overheat like that on a particular and not so demanding game. On Idle I have temps like 50 Degrees Celsius and 30+ temp difference between idle and 40% loaded is just ... I don't know unorthodox I guess.

Oh and one thing, I run everything maxed DE:HR FPS goes 100+ because I disabled vsync so that problems with mouse lag go away but then this problem hit. I can't enable vsync and I limited FPS using MSI Afterburner but even when I limit it to like 60 I get the same overheating problems!

Any ideas or solutions would be very appreciated!

I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit.

Good day!

vsync should help because if your getting 100+ fps your card is working hard for no benefit. Also grab a laptop cooler that has a fan which blows on it.

Other than that you might want to turn some of the settings down so your GPU doesn't have to work so hard to get to 60 fps.

I know you said you tried using vsync to bring the temperature down and you still get overheating problems, but I know from experience it will cause your GPU to lower it's usage.

While gaming I usually put computer power option to high performance. If I put balanced wouldn't it kinda downclock video card and CPU therefor give me more stable temps?
